Our garden office (aka "Dave's Cave") is fully equipped with models, posters, whiteboards and games. Molecular models are a vital tool for enhancing students' grasp of biological and chemical mechanisms. All these resources help to enhance the students' ability to visualise more easily and therefore understand better the topics under consideration.
The use of online video and molecular models can help significantly with "making the invisible visible". A full set of molymod models and three different cameras enable us to discuss and demonstrate close up, dipoles, mechanisms and molecular shapes. A fully adjustable desktop camera allows close up views of test tube reactions and molecular models to be shared clearly with all students
Many of our models are magnetised. This enables us to simulate the bonding which can happen beween atoms and molecules. Magnetic whiteboards coupled with magnetic symbols, ionic and molecular models help to make our expositions as clear and as palatable as possible .
One corner of "Dave's Cave" is equipped with a range of laboratory chemicals and apparatus. Short, live, "impromptu" demonstrations are used to enhance tutorials and will consolidate understanding. Students who might have misunderstood or simply missed practical work can easily be brought "up to speed" by the use of such live demonstrations as required.
With over 120 pre-prepared, high quality plant and animal slides, we can cover all the microscopy requirements for biology A level, IB Diploma and GCSE and IGCSE as well as preparing live slides and videos to show a variety of processes. We are currently working on ways to make the microscopy live on line.
Our lab facilities enable us to obtain genuine chemical analysis data which although remote, will help students to appreciate the importance of evaluation and error analysis. We can perform a range of titrimetric and gravimetric procedures which enhance the practical experience gained by students.
One to one tuition remains one of the most effective options for students wishing to improve understanding and examination technique.
Our fee for online tuition is £48 per hour or £24 for 30 minutes. All fees for online tuition are payable at the time of booking.find out more
Team up with others to improve your chemistry and biology.
A cost effective and sociable way to improve your grades :
We charge £48 per hour for tutor time regardless of group size. We charge only for the time that the tutor is actually online with the group.find out more
A practical and fun addition to science "home" schooling, this "kitchen chemistry" course is designed to inspire youngsters who are keen to get to grips with the concepts of types of materials, chemical and physical changes and separation techniques.
Our junior science course offers a series of fun, 40 minute, practical science sessions for children in the later years of primary or early years of secondary schooling ( year 5 - 8) . We encourage groups of two three friends - ( usually in the same year group) to book a course together.find out more
All our tutorial work is supported by an ever increasing bank of online resources.
Organised in the form of a blog, resources include animations, graphics, videos, questions and quizzes. The blog's responsive layout enables it to be accessed easily via tablet, phone and laptop. All registered students will have access to the relevant parts of this ever-growing resource bank.
Advanced users are able to maintain their own blog sections.find out more
Ideal for students with limited access to practical facilities - these simulations are accessible for all registered students and teachers. Specific simulations can be accessed via the subject pages in mychem.co.uk or via the simulations menu
Students registering to access simulations only will need to specify the subject and level required.find out more
